Masai Mara
Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserve, famous for the Great Migration, resident big cats and open golden plains.
Lake · Kenya
Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in the Great Rift Valley, about two hours' drive from Nairobi. Fringed with papyrus and acacia, it is home to large numbers of hippos and more than 400 bird species, including fish eagles that are often seen hunting from boats.
A one-hour boat trip takes visitors close to hippos and waterbirds. Crescent Island, a private sanctuary, allows guided walking safaris among giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and waterbuck without predators. Hell's Gate National Park nearby is suited to cycling and walking among dramatic cliffs and gorges.
With its relaxed pace and lakeside lodges, Naivasha is a popular first or last stop on a Kenya safari, especially for travellers heading to or from the Masai Mara.
Naivasha can be visited all year. The dry months, June to October and January to February, offer the most comfortable weather for walking and boat trips.
We do not have a published safari for Lake Naivasha yet. Tell us your plans and we will build one.
