Diani Beach

Diani Beach, near Ukunda on Kenya's south coast, is one of Africa's most admired beaches, with powdery white sand, palm trees and warm turquoise water protected by a coral reef. It is a favourite way to end a safari.

Swimming, snorkelling, kitesurfing and sailing are popular, and dhow trips visit nearby Wasini Island and the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, where dolphins are often seen. Shimba Hills National Park inland offers a short wildlife outing, and colobus monkeys live in the beach forests.

Diani is served by Ukunda airstrip, which has flights from the Masai Mara and Nairobi, and by road from Mombasa. Resorts range from full-service beach hotels to quiet boutique stays.
